APPENDIX TO ITEM 22 Bids to host the FIG Working Week 2005The Institution of
Surveyors, AustraliaThe Institution of Surveyors, Australia wishes to formally lodge a bid to
host the 2005 FIG General Assembly & Working Week, to be considered by the
membership of the FIG at the forthcoming meeting in Prague. Our Institution would like to assist the FIG in its aim to spread the hosting
of the General Assemblies & Working Weeks around the world, through hosting
the 2005 meeting. Looking at the past and future locations of the FIG's meetings
(1998 - UK, 1999 - South Africa, 2000 - Czech Republic, 2001 - South Korea, 2002
- USA, 2003 - Israel, 2004 - Greece & 2006 - Germany) we believe that
holding the 2005 meeting in Australia would provide an even "spread"
of the FIG's Working Weeks. If our Institution's bid is successful, it is proposed that the meeting would
be held in Sydney, in conjunction with our national conference. Sydney as most
will be aware is the venue for the 2000 Olympic Games and has ample facilities
to host a meeting such as the FIG's General Assembly and Working Week. Sydney is
an international airline hub, and provides direct access to flights to and from
Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas and the Pacific region. We recognise that the 1994 FIG Congress was held in Melbourne, Australia but
we feel that given the gap of eleven years and that holding a meeting in
Australia would provide access to a large number of the smaller members
associations in the southern hemisphere, that hosting the 2005 General Assembly
& Working Week in Sydney, Australia would be appropriate. Given that the 2004 meeting in Athens is scheduled for August 2004 and the
2006 FIG Congress in Munich will be held in September 2006, it is proposed that
the meeting in Sydney would be held in September 2005. We would welcome the opportunity to address the General Assembly in Prague,
to highlight the advantages to the FIG through having the 2005 General Assembly
& Working Week in Sydney, Australia and to provide any further information
that the member associations might require. Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact
us. Yours Faithfully The Institution of Surveyors, Australia John CrickmoreChief Executive Officer
