| FIG President attends 44th Council Meeting of the ASEAN

 |  President CheeHai TEO attended the 44th Council Meeting of the 
	ASEAN Federation of Land Surveying and Geomatics hosted by the Survey and 
	Mapping Society, Thailand, an Institutional Member of AFLAG in Bangkok. Dr.
				Wicha Jiwalai, President of AFLAG who is from Thailand, chaired the 
	meeting. Dr Jiwalai took office in June this year for a two-year tenure.
	 FIG President extended to Dr. Wicha Jiwalai and the people of Thailand 
	the sadness of FIG and its membership over the hardship and misery endured 
	by large segment of the Thai society in the ongoing and worsening flood 
	affecting the country. FIG President stressed the key role and contribution 
	of surveying sciences, practices and technologies in various aspects of 
	disaster management and disaster risk reduction, and urged not only the Thai 
	surveying community but also the ASEAN surveying community to intensify its 
	collaboration, its contribution and be part of the solution working towards 
	the wellbeing of society, environment and economy.  At the meeting, FIG President met some lecturers and invited the 
	Department of Survey Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn 
	University to apply for Academic Membership. Similarly, FIG President also 
	invited the Survey and Mapping Society, Thailand to consider applying for 
	membership.  ESRI Thailand made a presentation at the meeting on their ongoing 
	contribution in the current national flood crisis, demonstrating the 
	deployment of surveying and geospatial sciences, technologies and also staff 
	members. In the presentation, it was evident that ESRI Thailand had to 
	embrace social media and volunteered information to be more effective in 
	their contribution towards the current national flood crisis. Trimble 
	Navigation also made a presentation highlighting their partnership with 
	development projects in the region.  FIG President also made a brief presentation to the meeting on the FIG’s 
	current work plan and emphasis and invited the attendees and their 
	organization to the Working Week in Rome.
