Abstract
In a world of increasingly rapid political, economic, social and
technological development, where global trade in surveyors’ services
is expected, standards have a vital facilitating role to play. This
was recognised by FIG in the late 1990s, leading to the setting up of
an FIG Task Force on Standardisation in 1998. The paper outlines the
progress and plans of the Task Force, setting them in the wider
context.
