| President TEO CheeHai Visits China Land Surveying and 
	Planning Institute 24-25 July 2011, Beijing, PR China Mr WANG Shiyuan, Vice Minister of Land and Resources China hosted 
	a dinner for President TEO CheeHai during this stopover in Beijing on 
	his return from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia after attending the 17th PCGIAP 
	Meeting. Together with Mr Wang were Ms. FENG Wenli, Deputy Director 
	General, Department of Cadastral Management, Ministry of Land and Resources 
	China (MLR), Mr. CHEN Yong, Deputy Director General of Department of 
	Science & Technology and International Cooperation MLR, Mr. QIU Liefei, 
	Director, Department of Cadastral Management MLR, Mr. ZHENG Lingzhi, 
	Director-General, China Land Surveying and Planning Institute (CLSPI) MLR,
				Ms. Gao Ping, Deputy Director-General CLSPI and Ms. LIAO Rong 
	(Rosy), Head International Cooperation Office CLSPI. CLSPI was admitted 
	as an Affiliate Member of FIG and received its membership certificate at the 
	recent FIG General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco.

 |  Vice Minister Wang expressed his support towards CLSPI’s membership in 
	FIG and hoped that the membership will intensify efforts towards better 
	policies, programs and practices within the area of land management and 
	administration in China. His Ministry’s aims include making a better future 
	for all through sustainable land management and uses. During the dinner and 
	interaction with Vice Minister Wang and his officers, President Teo was made 
	to understand that there are approximately 300,000 land managers and 
	administrators in China and the seniors in their ranks are members of China 
	Land Science Society. Vice Minister Wang wishes to see China Land Science 
	Society becoming a member association in FIG. Towards the end of the 
	evening, President Teo extended an invitation to Mr Wang Shiyuan to FIG’s 
	2012 General Assembly and Working Week in Rome, Italy.  During the visit to China Land Surveying and Planning Institute on 25th 
	July 2011, President TEO met Mr. CHEN Guoshen, Vice Secretary General 
	of China Land Science Society and was informed that the Society was 
	established in 1980 and membership is voluntary. One of its functions 
	include registering and issuing permit to practise as land use planners.  Earlier in the afternoon of 25 July 2011, Ms Gao Pin together with
				Prof. Zhao Song (Director, Land Value Division) and Ms Rosy Liao 
	received President TEO at the Institute’s premises in Beijing and in a 
	presentation, introduced the functions and responsibility of the Institute 
	in PR China. The Institute also acts as a “think tank” within the Ministry 
	and areas of activities include land use planning, land survey and 
	evaluation, cadastral management, land policy, remote sensing, land pricing 
	and land information. Current initiatives of CLSPI include establishing a 
	national cadastral database that will include what is generally understood 
	as private and public lands as well as a unified national land registration 
	system.  CLSPI is keen to play its role as an affiliate member and to contribute 
	towards the success of various FIG initiatives as well as willing to play 
	host to FIG’s activities and events in China. CLSPI wishes to advance the 
	sciences and practices related to land, in particular, planning, use and 
	management in China and wishes to explore with FIG the possibility of an 
	international symposium or workshop on innovative and unified system of 
	national land registration, seeking to learn from the experiences and best 
	practises of others in this area. CLSPI reiterates her desire to intensify 
	its engagement with FIG, its commissions, networks and task forces.  President Teo welcomed this, encouraged CLSPI to tap into the knowledge 
	bank within FIG and its extensive series of publications and suggested that 
	CLSPI may want to translated some of these publications into Chinese for the 
	benefit of those working in these fields. CLSPI is also encouraged to 
	actively participate in FIG activities, in particular those that are related 
	to the roles and responsibilities of the Institute.  CheeHai TEOPresident
